The table below lists the change in the noise made by auotmobiles, medium trucks, and heavy trucks as they increase in speed from 30 mph to 70 mph. Raising the speed of an automobile 10 mph (from 55 to 65 mph) increases the noise made by that vehicle 3 dB, from 72 dB to 75 dB.

At 1x for a MB CD, it takes 80 minutes to read a full disc. With a single layer MB DVD at 1x it takes minutes to read a full disc, which is only 50% longer for % and change of the data, so DVD reads at about 4x the speed of CD for the same amount of noise.

If I pull down the door on the Delta and place my finger on the cd tray the noise lessens but the vibration is something else. It seems that the Delta is more poorly constructed which is what I think generates the noise and vibration when the disk is spinning so fast.

Sludgy, abrasive, and punishing, Noise is everything its name promises, expanding on the music's capacity for sonic assault while almost entirely rejecting the role of melody and songcraft. From the ear-splitting, teeth-rattling attack of Japan's Merzbow to the thick, grinding intensity of Amphetamine Reptile-label bands like Tar and Vertigo.
